Why I’m Here
I’m Logan Evans, a Kent native, high school teacher running for State House, District 47 Position #1. A Cascade Democrat, I’m committed to making Kent a safer, smarter, more beautiful, and affordable place to live - for families, workers, and the young and old alike.
WHO I AM
I’m Logan Evans, a Cascade Democract for State House (District 47, Position #1)

I was born in Renton, raised in Kent, and I work in downtown Auburn as a teacher of English and History. This is my home, and every part of my life has been shaped right here in our region. I’m proud to call myself a Cascadian and a lifelong member of our community.

One thing that gets me is that, while I really love our county, we're on the edge of crisis. Tax-paying, longtime residents, the youth and young families are fleeing our cities. They are fleeing not only because of the obvious problems with drugs and crime, but that there really isn't anything to do. We have some incredible parks and trails. We have some incredible city space with so many people, and yet, there isn't a real downtown scene. There isn't anything.

My students, my friends, my coworkers don't just complain about homelessness, addiction, crime and violence (all of which are serious things). They don't move away for that, because New York City, Seattle and San Francisco also have these issues, but people move there every year. People move because our part of King County not only struggles, but it offers nothing in return for the San Francisco-tier taxes and rent we pay.

I'm running to change this. We're going to make our cities safe, we invest in our growth as good stewards to make a better Auburn, Covington and Kent for all ages. One where we see thriving small business along with vibrant arts and culture.

We're a big enough district to have our own cultural nightlife, real city centers, where we don't have to drive to Renton, Bellevue or Seattle. Our children should be able to have fun downtown. We should have real farmer's markets and events
and a nightlife that we can easily stroll through. We will do this by channeling our Cascade Democratic mantra of being good stewards of our growth, vs. the anti-growth destruction of our current administration.

You can see how I've set out to achieve all these things below. You'll find I am passionate and extreme in my pursuit of rational solutions.

Vote Logan for House this August Primary.
KEY ISSUES I'LL TACKLE
Quality of Life
Build 20-stories within 5-blocks of the Light Rail and major transit centers to avoid rezoning single-family homes. Expand parks, nightlife, and pedestrian zones downtown.
Safety
Public Camping Ban with direction towards services. 3-strikes law with 6-months of involuntary rehab. Expanded police force and greater community self-policing.
Arts & Culture
Lobbying King County Cultural Funds for a greater share for our District. Bringing cultural exhibitions and performers from afar and supporting local artists here in Auburn, Covington & Kent.
Standing with our Legislators, City Councils, and our Community to deliver urgent solutions on infrastructure, crime, and homelessness.

Quality of Life
Make Kent Fun & Affordable!

I’ve traveled a lot. And every time I return to South King County, I’m grateful for the beauty of our surroundings, for the nearness of my family, and for the peace found in nature.

But a city is more than a gateway to the mountains. What about having something to actually do? People in Kent pay as much in rent as someone in New York City or San Francisco, yet we have none of their culture or fun activities.

Too many are left with little more than strip malls and speeding traffic. It’s unacceptable that a city clerk might drive home only to turn around and head to Tacoma for a Paint & Sip. That people looking for fun need to go to a pub in Renton or a mall in Bellevue. That teenagers find their excitement through reckless alternatives. That in cities across the Washington and the world, with fewer than our 144,000, there are more vibrant and beautiful public spaces than in Kent.

We deserve better. And I believe the 47th is ready to become something more.

The Reality We Face:

Kent, Auburn and Covington stand on the cusp of crisis.

  • The average home now costs over $700,000
  • Rent for a 2-bedroom apartment nears $2,000/month
  • And Downtown Kent remains underdeveloped, lacking any nightlife or activities.
  • Our streets and highways are congested and crumbling. We lack civic beauty, walkability, and gathering places

My Plan to Rebuild Connection:
I will work to revitalize the downtowns

  • Work with experts, the community and Real Estate Developers to create an actual Master Plan for our cities to guide development in a controlled, rational, and long-term manner
  • 20-stories within 5-blocks of the Light Rail and major transit centers
  • 7-stories within 10 blocks
  • First floor, rent-free commercial stores, groceries, bars, cafes, nightclubs, music and more.
  • Mixed-use structures like these will provide affordable housing that people can own, not rent, and provide for a stable, strong economy.
  • Thanks to this density, there will be No rezoning of Single-Family Households
  • New and expanded central park and community spaces
  • Cascadian-influenced architectural design
  • Community Rec Centers
  • Beer Garden
  • Music Venues, 21+ and 20-Under
  • Pedestrian-only boulevards, perfect for sightseeing, strolls and public events

If we are paying for New York, let's live like it!

SAFETY
Dignity and Order Can Coexist

I’ve seen how housing prices, addiction, and untreated mental illness have destroyed lives—and even put my own family, friends, and students on the streets.
I’ve spoken with homeowners and parents who are afraid to let their children walk to school. I’ve listened to students and neighbors who dread stepping outside their own homes. I’ve heard from business owners who are facing ruin and relentless stress because of the unchecked chaos on our streets.

And I’ve spoken with the people living on the street, who told me—again and again—that they just want a real place to begin.

The Reality We Face:

Over 20,000 people are homeless in King County, many caught in cycles of trauma, danger, and exploitation.

We cannot pretend this is normal. And we cannot accept inaction as compassion.

My Plan: Triage, Not Tents

  1. Passing a Public Camping Ban with direction to Shelter or Services
  2. Establish a 3-Strike Policy: after 3 incidents of refusing shelter, overdosing, or theft, individuals will enter 6 months of involuntary rehab
  3. Use existing taxes to expand the police and ensure better security for the city and its public spaces.

If we need more shelters, then we will build it! I am personally inspired by the Olympic Tiny Homes model, but the truth is, whatever works, works.

Leaving people on the streets isn’t mercy. It’s abandonment.
We owe every person a city that cares enough to act with both structure and compassion. That's why I'm running, to restore balance, bring back order, and build real safety and dignity for everyone, from our storefronts to our sidewalks, from the forests to the parks.
Arts & Culture
Putting Spirit back into South King County

What's crazy to me is that we live in a city with over 140,000 people, and how few events there are. A local resident described the importance of using public spaces for things like concerts, performances, and cultural events because not only is it what makes a community, but also, it keeps these public spaces from decaying. In a way, a city is a vacuum. We can fill it with beautiful, fun things that give life spark and artists opportunity, or it will be filled with disorder, mess and garbage.

The Reality We Face:

Auburn, Covington & Kent have no large, easily accessible and popular music venues beyond the overly expensive Showare Center and the Muckleshoot (we love our Muck, but we need more!)

The events we do have are poorly advertised and infrequent.

My Plan: King County Arts & Cultural Fund

  • The King County 4Culture fund has a $40,000,000 budget that "provides funding and support for the cultural work that makes King County vibrant"
  • I will lobby for a greater share for Kent so we can get no-cover, live performances more often.
  • It's not enough to just have developed city center, expansive parks, and music venues, they need to be filled with something. Hosting cultural exhibitions of local talent, and nationally and globally-recognized artists will revitalize our cities almost as much as safer streets. People want fun, they want beauty, they want art, and they want culture.
  • I'm here to bring it to them! Let's give people a reason to stay here!
